The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1966 (HIPAA) created national standards for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of individuals’ medical records and other protected health information (PHI) and the confidentiality, integrity and availability of electronic health information. Blue Cross BlueShield of South Carolina and BlueChoice^® HealthPlan have established internal guidelines and trainings that hold employees accountable for any privacy violations encountered.
 
Providers that use our secure online portal, My Insurance Manager^SM (MIM), are held to the same standard of protection for our members’ PHI. Safeguarding member personal information can begin with creating a strong password. Having a strong password provides protection from financial fraud and identity theft for you and our members.
